Meet Eric Matthews

I'm Eric Matthews, the founder of EDM Capital. My journey into wealth management is a bit unconventional. I started in Hollywood, working long hours in the entertainment industry, but a negative experience with a financial advisor (I lost ¾ of my wealth) made me realize the importance of protecting assets and growing wealth the right way. That experience drove me to pivot into finance, and after years of working with top firms in Beverly Hills, I decided to create my own firm—one that reflects my conservative Catholic values. My story is rooted in resilience, faith, and a commitment to serving others. From overcoming financial challenges in my youth to building a successful wealth management practice, I've learned that it's not just about the numbers—it's about helping people achieve peace of mind and financial security.

My Journey

Hi, I’m Eric Matthews, founder of EDM Capital, and my journey into wealth management has been anything but ordinary.

It all started back in college when I found myself facing financial hardship. I was broke and determined not to stay that way. I realized that if I wanted to change my circumstances, I needed to understand business and finance. I believed that with the right knowledge, I could escape the cycle of poverty. After graduation, however, instead of diving straight into finance, I took a detour into the entertainment industry, where I spent six years working on TV shows and films. It was an exciting and fast-paced environment, but the long hours—80-hour workweeks with just two vacations over six years—took their toll.

During that time, I met someone who called himself a financial advisor. Trusting his expertise, my family and I followed his advice, only to discover that he had steered us into high-commission, illiquid products that wiped out 80% of our investments. That so-called advisor turned out to be nothing more than an unethical salesman, and although he was eventually banned by the SEC and faced numerous lawsuits, the damage to my family had already been done. The experience left me angry and frustrated. My family looked to me, asking why I hadn’t protected them, and I realized that despite my knowledge of corporate finance, I was unprepared when it came to personal finance.

That moment marked a turning point in my life. I became obsessed with figuring out what the wealthiest people were doing to protect and grow their money—because clearly, it wasn’t what I had just done. I left the entertainment industry and plunged headfirst into the world of wealth management. I joined a top firm in Beverly Hills, where I was exposed to everything imaginable in the financial world. Our team managed around four billion dollars in assets, and I learned the ins and outs of managing wealth at the highest level.

But despite the success I found at that firm, I reached a crossroads when I turned 35. I had a choice: continue on the path I was on, switch to another firm, or take the biggest risk of my life and start my own business. I asked myself, “When I’m 40, will I regret not having the guts to do this?” The answer was clear. I knew that at 40, I’d be grateful for the man who took the leap of faith at 35.

So, I took the plunge. I left the firm and started EDM Capital, driven by my desire to help others avoid the financial mistakes I had made. I knew that building a business wouldn’t be easy—I prayed multiple novenas to Saint Joseph for guidance—but I felt confident that this was the right path. Now, at 42, I look back and thank God for giving me the courage to take that risk. The journey has been challenging, but I’ve learned that with faith, determination, and a commitment to serving others, anything is possible.

Today, I’m dedicated to helping my clients protect their assets and achieve their financial goals in a way that aligns with their values. My experiences have shaped my approach to wealth management, and I’m committed to transparency, integrity, and putting my clients first—because I know firsthand how important it is to have a financial advisor you can trust. That’s my story, and I’d love to help you write yours. If you’re ready to take control of your financial future, let’s work together to make it happen.
